Sir William Young (1725 - 1788) Sir William Young was a prominent and effective pro-slavery campaigner in the House of Commons. He was also a plantation owner in St Vincent and Tobago. He became a Baron in 1770 and was appointed Governor of Dominica. His son, the second Sir William Young (1747 - 1815), became governor of Tobago from 1807 - 1815. He wrote diaries and descriptive accounts of the island, which he illustrated himself with maps and watercolour sketches.
