Examine the two images with students. Both images feature racist content and pupils should be prepared and supported in their responses.
Discuss with students perceptions of people of African descent in the nineteenth century.
Discuss how and why these images were produced.
Describe to students what took place at the dinner that Wilberforce chaired in 1816 for the African and Asiatic society (read about this in Themes). Discuss Wilberforce's ambiguous attitude. Why did he behave in this way?
