Abolition Campaign medallion, manufactured in Birmingham, 1834

British abolitionists celebrated their victory by issuing a series of commemorative medallions. The example shown here offers a challenge to the people of America, but others featured portraits of leading campaigners. With the benefit of hindsight, however, we might consider the self congratulatory element of the medallions questionable.
